Afrique Profonde was founded in concept in 1998 by Marius Billy, a Bantu musician and ethnomusicologist from a small village in the interior of Congo - Brazzaville (the Republic of Congo).
The vision of Afrique Profonde is to see Pygmies across Central Africa with equal human rights, protected land for continuing their nature-based lifestyle and religion, and health programs for eliminating malaria in the Congo Basin.
Afrique Profonde promotes these initiatives through international cultural exchange programs, artist-in- residency exchanges, eco-tourism, advocacy, and collaboration with other governmental and non-governmental organizations.
